VISCERAL MASSAGE

A useful technique to rebalance the function of the intestine and maintain its health.
The gut-brain axis: Intestine and brain are in constant communication through nerve cells called neurotransmitters.
This is also why the intestine is called the second brain or enteric brain.

Visceral massage works both on a physiological level and on a more subtle, deep energetic level with the aim of restoring homeostasis.

It is indicated both in case of symptoms directly related to the intestine such as:
- Dysbiosis
- Constipation
- IBS
- Colic
- Abdominal cramps

But also in cases of headaches, exhaustion, lower back pain...

A poorly functioning intestine is often the cause of various symptoms such as flu, colds, excess mucus, etc., as its cells form the operational centre of the immune response.

MASSAGGIO VISCERALE

Nutrition and Immune System

Come?

- cibi fermentati come : Miso, tempeh, kombucha, kefir

Our feeding plays a fundamental role in the functioning of the Immune System, since foods are rich in substances that can either enhance or depress it.

To allow this, it is important that it is in omeostasis.
The best way for a virus or bacteria to pass through the human body is through the digestive system, for this reason, stomach and intestines must remain healthy.
Increasing the intake of fibers creates a substrate for the growth of the Microbiota and therefore of our bacterial flora.
The better the bacterial flora, the healthier the microbiota, the lower the permeability and consequently also the intestinal inflammation and the lower the stasis inside the intestine.

To facilitate this process is important:
-Increase the water supply
-Diminish refined flours
-Limit the consumption of brewer's yeast as it creates a modulation of the microbiota creating a fertile ground for the onset of inflammation.
Increase the consumption of omega 3 (oilseeds, nuts, linseed and ground chia)
-Slowly chewing: whole food can scratch the intestinal mucosa and you can create loops that act as a niche for the proliferation of bacteria
Increase fiberintake through whole grains, legumes, fruits and vegetables
Increasing physical activitythat goes to act both physically and psychically
Increase the consumption of Vitamins A, C, E and mineralssuch as Selenium and Zinc through food (fresh fruits, vegetables, legumes, oilseeds and dried fruits).
-Try to synthesize Vitamin D that activates the defense cells (T killer) through exposure to sunlight for at least 20 minutes a day, if not possible, take it by supplement.
-Diminish the level of stress through singing, meditation, exercise.

Before doing any direct intervention on the I.S. it is necessary to make a depuration. The lymphatic system that connects the various organs of the I.S. tends to stasis as it does not have a pump like the heart that cleans the lymph and also the only way it has to move is to connect to the muscles. It is therefore good to be able to purify him as much as possible.

How?

The phytotherapy comes to our rescue with various remedies such as:
- the artichoke : purifies the liver from toxins, also usable in mother tincture
- the birch tree sap : drains the lymphatic system and cleanses it of slag
- the echinacea :( useful as prevention) to use before getting sick, as it acts on the innate immune response. Better if associated with VIT C and Zinc.
- the uncaria tomentosa : fights inflammation and it is immunostimulant
- the curcuma: has anti-inflammatory properties, enhances innate immunity, supports the body's innate capacity against viruses and bacteria. Useful both at preventive and therapeutic level
- the ginger: painkiller , anti-inflammatory, inhibits bacterial proliferation
- fermented foods like : Miso, tempeh, kombucha, kefir
- lactic ferments, if necessary, but must exceed at least 400 billion to overcome the acid barrier of the stomach

Prevention is always better than cure.

Excess of mucus, nutrition and natural remedies

Mucus is a substance produced by our mucus glands which, in a state of equilibrium, produce about 1.5 liters of it per day.
It performs an important protective function against viruses and bacteria as long as its condition is not altered by inflammation, in this case there will be an overproduction as a reaction of the mucosa which is attacked by bacteria.

What to do then?

First of all, maintaining homeostasis through a healthy diet.

Which foods to avoid and which ones to prefer?

Avoid:
- refined sugars and flours
- dairy products and red meats, animal fats
- foods that cool the body too much, especially in autumn and winter such as:
- raw vegetables
- different types of fruit especially (for example bananas and typically summer fruit)
- Soy products
- horse meat, crab
- foods too high in histamine such as alcohol, yogurt, vinegar, fermented foods, dried fruit, eggs, tomatoes, spinach, avocado and mushrooms.

Prefer:
- Whole grains
- Seasonal and local vegetables, possibly not raw but at least seared
- Drain the body with herbal teas and drinking the right amount of water
- Ginger (promotes sweating and moves stasis)
- Vegetable oils (olive, sesame, flax, sunflower, etc.)
- Vegetable soups (avoiding potato, which is not a vegetable and it's too much starchy)

To support these measures, some herbal remedies:

- fumigations with the aid of essential oils such as thyme, mint and eucalyptus
- herbal teas and / or decoctions of thyme, sage and ginger
- chest massage with a base oil of your choice such as almond or shea butter and essential oils. Thyme and sage always stand out among the best.
- Similar to the previous one there is also the thyme-based ointment. What is worth pointing out is to pay attention to the percentage of extract, which should be high enough.

Cosa fare quindi?

Innanzitutto mantenere l' omeostasi attraverso una sana alimentazione.

Quali cibi evitare e quali prediligere?

Evitare :
- zuccheri e farine raffinate

Eyes, the mirror of the Soul

The eyes are the mirror of the soul, it is said.
Indeed, for iridology, besides being this, they are much more than that. Irises are a bit like "a window" through which one can understand what a person can improve in his or her lifestyle.

If there are physical or emotional imbalances, excesses or deficiencies in nutrition, if the body needs to move more. If the relationship with ourselves or our environment is healthy.

As with all naturopathic techniques, iridology will not be looking for a symptom to suppress, but rather for its cause.

It can be used simply to recover good health, to preserve it, or if you wish, to go a little deeper into a path of self-knowledge.

🇬🇧Sinusitis: meaning, prevention and natural care

Sinusitis is an inflammation, acute or chronic, affecting the mucous membranes of the paranasal sinuses.
The inflamed mucosa, increasing in volume, obstructs the communication channels with the nasal cavities, creating stasis, mucus stagnation, an environment favourable to the proliferation of bacteria, headaches, stuffy nose.
It can be of viral, bacterial, fungal, allergic or mechanical origin in cases, for example, of deviation of the nasal septum.

On an analogical level, it can represent the closure with the external world, a block linked to an internal conflict, which affects the ability to welcome and interiorize the experience.
The mucus, which physiologically has the function of protecting against bacteria, and of keeping the mucous membranes moist, in an inflammatory state, at a subtle level speaks of retention, closure, protection.

According to the naturopathic view, to prevent this type of inflammatory state is necessary:
- To avoid dairy products, meat, cold meats, refined flours, simple sugars and preservatives, as they create overproduction of mucus both in the respiratory and digestive system.
- Higher immune defencesin order to protect against viral or bacterial infections.

Herbal and natural remedies:.

Ideal in the acute stages are the fumigation with essential oils such as white, eucalyptus, mint, tea tree, oregano and rosemary.
Quite simple and traditional remedy useful also in case of seasonal influences and colds.
When, on the other hand, we are facing a chronic stage, it will be essential to have patience, but we do not exclude herbal miracles!

A simple herbal tea, drunk daily throughout the year, can bring great benefits. We recommend leaves of eucalyptus, thyme and mint .

We also do not underestimate the importance of correct hygiene of the house in an economical, ecological and herbalist way with hot water and essential oils as well as elbow grease and vinegar where necessary.
A simple essence diffuser will help us to keep the environment cool and clean for longer with essential oils of thyme, eucalyptus, mint, oregano, tea tree, citrus fruits such as orange and lemon, and then lavender.
It will also be essential to strengthen the immune system and avoid mucus stagnation. Blow often the dripping nose, support the hygiene of the first airways with gentle nasal sprays free of drugs that cause habituation and undesirable effects. Even a few drops of essential oil in a paper towel always with us can save our lives.

Other useful remedies can be warm compresses with linseed or cornmeal on the forehead and sinuses.
Daily use of Lota (ancient Ayurvedic practice of nasal washing), better if after making two or three suffumigies to soften the mucus. In short, it takes very little to do a lot!

Siamo in autunno, quindi, come sempre, bisogna preferire cibi locali e stagionali.

Frutta: Arance, Cachi, Castagne, Fichi, Fichi d’india, Kiwi, Limoni, Mandarini, Melagrano, Mele, Melone, Pere.

Verdura: Zucca , rapa rossa, topinambur, fave, broccoli, cavolini di Bruxelles, cavolo cappuccio, capperi, carote, cavolfiori, sedano, ceci, indivia, finocchi, aglio, carciofi, cipolle, sedano rapa, funghi, cavolo viola.

Vitamina E e Omega6 contenuta frutta secca, olio extravergine d’oliva e cereali integrali, semi oleosi.

Evitare: zuccheri bianchi e preferire sempre quelli naturali ( agave, acero, malto ecc), farine raffinate, preferendo quelli integrali o semi-integrali.

Rimedi naturali:

Esistono tantissime piante e rimedi.

🇬🇧Food and natural remedies that strengthen the immune system
With the change of season, we are apathetic, tired, sleep badly and this can make us sensitive to pathogens. What to do then?
We are in autumn, so, as always, we must prefer local and seasonal food.
What does autumn offer in Malta and what are the foods that best boost the immune system?
What are the most appropriate natural remedies?

Foods rich in vitamin C and A:

Fruit: Oranges, persimmons, chestnuts, figs, prickly pears, kiwis, lemons, mandarins, pomegranate, apples, melon, pears.

Green: Pumpkin, red turnip, Jerusalem artichokes, broad beans, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, capers, carrots, cauliflowers, celery, chickpeas, endive, fennel, garlic, artichokes, onions, celeriac, mushrooms, purple cabbage.

Omega3 contained in linseed, dried fruit and in particular almonds and walnuts.

Vitamin E and Omega6 contained in dried fruit, extra virgin olive oil and whole cereals, oilseeds.

Avoid: white sugars and always prefer natural sugars (agave, maple, malt, etc.), refined flours, preferring wholemeal or semi-integral ones.

Natural remedies:

Also to strengthen our immune system, the remedy comes directly from Nature. There are many plants, more or less known, that we can take in different forms. Syrups, sprays, tinctures, capsules, herbal teas... As in the case of food, it is essential to stress that it is always good to prefer local plants rather than remedies that come from far away. But let's see some of them!

Canine Rose, Echinacea and Walnut: very rich in vitamin C in the first one, very precious to help the body's natural defences and prevent seasonal infections in the second one, anti-infective in the third one. A perfect trio!

Reishi: also called immortality mushroom or Ganoderma. It has many activities, not only helps to strengthen the body's defences but has also demonstrated anti-histamine and anti-tussive activity. The Reishi has now become popular with us too, but it comes from Eastern culture.

Issopo, Timo, Verbasco and Eucalyptus: they enjoy balsamic and expectorant activity, useful in case of cough, colds and small infections of the airways.

Bitter Orange essential oil, Grapefruit, Thyme and Eucalyptus are among the must-have in home aromatics in winter along with ment essential oil.
The essential oils, often also act on stress that as we know is one of the causes of lowered immune defenses.

Poly, royal jelly and honey
: directly from the hive, they strengthen our defences and those of the whole family. There should never be a jar of organic honey missing from our pantry!

Ginger and cinnamon: anti-inflammatory par excellence, to warm the soul on winter days in both herbal teas and aromatherapy.

There are many plants and remedies. Our advice is always to rely on professional figures who can guide you through all seasons, not just when the first cold weather starts.

Autumn is coming...

Cosa significa fare prevenzione?
- Fare attenzione a quello introduciamo nel nostro corpo attraverso l' alimentazione

(Cit. : B. Ramazzini - Medico, scienziato, scritto 1633-1714)

🇬🇧Autumn is coming to Malta too... we wake up tired as if we had been working all night long... we feel lacking of energy...
It is essential to prepare the body, raising the vital energies and therefore the immune defences naturally present in a healthy body.

Doing prevention, in a historical moment like this, is fundamental for ourselves and for others.

What does it mean to do prevention?
- Paying attention of what we introduce into our bodies through the food.
- Doing physical activity, moderate but constantly
- Reducing excesses and nourishing deficiencies on all levels (physical , mental , emotional)
- Support ourselves, if necessary, with the right natural remedies.

The disease arises from an imbalance between the various parts that make up the body.
The PNEI (psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology) teaches how the various systems are connected to each other as a vicious circle that can become virtuous by making adjustments to our lifestyle.

Naturopathy considers every human being as an individual in its own right. It works at causalistic level in search of the cause and never at the suppression of the symptom, so that the latter can be resolved definitively.

There are no protocols because what is useful for one person may not be useful for another. We have different genetic terrain, predispositions, constitutions and lifestyles.

The body, through the symptom, signals us an imbalance, just as a machine, through the spies, signals a malfunction. The symptoms are like those spies: if we turn them off, the body (machine) will propose them us again with others, until the machine-body will stop working.

Acufeni, cosa sono e rimedi naturali

🇮🇹Acufeni:

- l’ipertensione, alterazioni del flusso sanguigno dei vasi vicini all’orecchio, il soffio al cuore, trauma all'orecchio interno, cervcalgia, lavori rumorosi, abuso di fumo,farmaci ototossici, intolleranze alimentari, diabete;
- oppure psicosomatici, come ad esempio lo stress;

• Mantenere l' organismo ben idratato
• Evirare latticini, zuccheri e farine raffinate poichè creano muco

🇬🇧Tinnitus:
It is an irritation or inflammation of the acoustic nerve, which can be bothersome to the point of compromising hearing and the quality of life of the affected person.
The causes can be different both of a physiological nature such as:
- hypertension, changes in the blood flow of the vessels near the ear, heart murmur, trauma to the inner ear, neck pain, noisy work, smoking abuse, ototoxic drugs, food intolerances, diabetes;
or psychosomatic, such as stress;
or again the consequence of incorrect eating habits: - intoxication with sugars, alcohol and white flours.

What can naturopathy do?

The naturopath, working for the restoration of homeostasis, identifies excesses to be reduced and deficiencies to be nourished, modifying, in collaboration with the individual, the lifestyle.

The possible Natural Remedies, in fact, consist of a series o dietary and behavioral measures that a person can implement:

Eg:
• Eliminate smoking
• Keep the body well hydrated
• Avoid alcohol which could increase blood flow
• Reduce caffeine and salt
• Avoid dairy products, sugars and refined flours as they create mucus

A careful holistic analysis can identify the right cause and therefore the right remedy.

Riflessologia e sistema immunitario

Come?

FOOT REFLEXOLOGY AND IMMUNE SYSTEM

The foot reflexology treatment supports and awakens the immune system, not only because through the stimulation of reflex points it works on the organs charged to the immune defense, but also because the operator identifies harmful behavior and, in close collaboration with the user, works on the re-education to a pro-health lifestyle.

How?

By feeding deficiencies and reducing excesses.
When we suffer from headaches, to give an example, we have been accustomed ( I also did it for many years) to look for any method, available on the market, to suppress that pain.
No matter how, we need someone or something that, with a certain urgency, will suppress that pain, unaware that by turning off that symptom, we remove the possibility of a final resolution.

In order to make this point understood, we often make the example of the car, which I find very effective, given that the human body is like a machine.

Let's take the case that we are driving and our car at a certain point signals through an orange light that something is wrong.
We, bothered by this flashing light, turn it off, but we don't solve the problem. A few kilometres further on, the car will signal us another problem that we will turn off, and so on, until the car stops and then we would be forced to face a much bigger expense, to repair the damage.

In the human body the same thing happens: we get the annoying symptom, like a banal headache, we turn it off with a drug, but we have not solved the cause, in fact it will happen again and again until it becomes chronic.

So what is the solution if the pain is unbearable?

The symptom serves to remind us that we have to solve the cause of that problem and not to continue to insist on the effect, if we turn off a headache, for example, will we then remember that the cause may reside in a too sedentary life, or in an excess of animal proteins and sugars in our diet or maybe all these causes?

The work of the holistic operator is precisely to cooperate with the user in order to reactivate the body and its natural defenses to be able to cope with the attack of pathogens and to put it in a condition to avoid to resort to symptomatic remedies in the long run, be they drugs or others.

Symptomatic remedies are useful as a crutch to support us on our way to recovery, but they should not become an excuse to limp all our lives.

How the Bach flowers work?

🇬🇧 Flower therapy, in particular Bach flowers are a good support for those who decide to take responsibility for their health. Completely free of side effects, the flowers support us towards the knowledge of ourselves and thanks to the advice of the florist help us to correct those dynamics that hinder the healing processes.

One of the flowers I like the most aesthetically is Red Chestnut.

In May, after the lockdown, I found myself walking through the streets of Dresden in Germany and every street was full of the ruby red color of this beautiful flower...

Red Chestnut is a useful remedy for those who worry too much about the welfare of others, often cancelling themselves out.

Bach describes it as follows: "For those who find it difficult not to be anxious about other people. Many times they may not worry about themselves anymore, but they can suffer a lot for the people they care about, often expecting unpleasant events to happen to them.

I call it "the Flower of Mothers" because it reminds a little bit of the apprehensive and maternal attitude of a mother, but it is not rare that through the test it emerges to a man, or a dog or a child.

The flower will harmonize this anxious concern for others and then turn it into a quality, that is, a healthy caring for others.

We are what we eat

🇬🇧
"We are what we eat" said Feuerbach, a famous and controversial German philosopher who lived in the second half of the 19th century.
In particular, he was the first who raised doubts about the dualism of body and and soul, because he believed in the non-separation between psyche and soma ( mind and body), he therefore fought against any form of religion or philosophy which didn't not take into account the body dimension.

Anyway, let's come to the present day. We are what we eat is a sentence that we often read in newspapers, advertisements and so on.. But what does it mean exactly?

Everything we introduce in our body has an energy, consequently, the digestive process does not only deal with separation, assimilation, digestion and waste, but also its nutritional properties and less considered, the energy.

This means that, if in our diet we choose vital and fresh foods (which respect geography and seasonality), rather than those which have undergone a thousand steps of storage, refining or which have had to travel hundreds if not sometimes thousands of kilometres, there will be a greater probability of absorbing the right nutrients and the right energies.

I often receive people in treatment who feel tired and exhausted and usually, in their minds, the first culprit to whom point the finger is stress.

True! We are a society full of stressors, or rather of incapable people of interacting with stressors (work, family, relationships, etc.), so, instead of limiting the damage by introducing healthy and quality food into our bodies, we use it to vent our frustrations.

So we are tired, stressed and to complete the picture, we give a hit to our digestive system.

Let's start from the simplest things by eating better. With a healthy body, following a healthy diet, we will be more likely to interact and thus govern the everyday events, our mind will be more focused as well as our ability to cope with the obstacles of life.

🇮🇹

An ordinary day

Bean in chiave trasformativa.

It is now a well-known fact that the importance of movement for the maintenance of good health is repeated to us as a mantra. But have we ever wondered why? What is the relationship between movement and well-being?

I will reply from a naturopathic point of view, therefore taking into account the human being as a whole.

Moving, with a certain constancy, sets in motion the various systems and apparatus of the body that are in constant communication with each other, so nervous system, cardio-circulatory system, respiratory system, digestive system and so on.
It follows that, by setting in motion the locomotor apparatus, we will also activate all the others, so that, also with a simple daily walk, our muscles, bones, breathing, blood and lymphatic circulation, digestion and peristalsis will be positively impacted.

Let's take a practical example.

Mr. Bean has a tendentially sedentary life, he gets up every day at the same time to go to the office, by car, being stuck in rush hour traffic, so he starts to brood over all the deadlines to pay, the bad argument he had with his boss and maybe getting angry in every traffic lights because the first car in line did not start immediately.

He goes home, arguing with his neighbor because he always makes mistakes in throwing the garbage . Tired and exhausted he doesn't want to cook. So he takes at random the first flyer of delivery food service, orders super stuffed pizza, with lots of chips, sauces of all colors and possibly a pint .. thank you!
Finished swallowing all that junk food combination, exhausted, he'll go to bed not before having nervously smoked the "last of the day".

The next day he'll start all over again like a movie he's already seen.
At the end of the month, he feels exhausted.
Mr Bean knows he needs to go for a nice walk outside, to play football with his friends, but his body can't take it, he's too tired! He looks himself in the mirror and he's got also pimples all over him! What happened to Mr. Bean? The intestine no longer knows which other organ asking for help because they are all busy working overtime.
The skin that tries to come in support of the intestine tries to send smoke signals by filling with pimples.

Let's try to go over Mr. Bean's typical day in a different key.

Mr. Bean wakes up every morning, makes some stretching exercises, has a healthy breakfast and takes the car he had parked far away the night before, a small action that will allow him to make a minimum of movement.
In the car, if it is not possible to go by public transport, he will put a music he loves and that makes him belting out, forgetting his problems and giving a sigh of relief to the poor spleen.
He arrives at the office with an energetic, proactive, positive and contagious state of mind.. His heart is happy!
Bean has finished the job earlier than expected, comes back home and it's still early for dinner, so he decides to dust off his bike in the garage and have a nice ride in the park! Joints, bones and muscles are doing the wave.
On the way home he passes in front of the supermarket and satisfied by the ride, he doesn't feel the need to buy compensatory food and will opt for cereals, vegetables of different colours and fruit.
His stomach and intestines are embraced and moved...
At home while cooking cereal, he has time to make that phone call to a dear friend he hadn't heard for a long time, feeding his heart and emotions.
Lungs and heart are toasting such a day!
After dinner he still feels full of energy... on the bedside table he has a nice book given by a dear friend which talks about the benefits of meditation.
He reads a few pages of it and decides that... why not give it a try? He takes a few minutes of meditation and falls blissfully into the arms of morpheus.
His brain and nervous system are on their knees in immense gratitude. br>
Does it sounds like a paradox? Or do you recognize yourself a little bit in Mr. Bean?
I was an ordinary M. Bean myself before I realized that life is a precious gift, and the more I treat my body well the more he will give me credit for it and repay me with interest.

Let's shake up our immune system numbed by endless days of Covid's forced quarantine19!
Let's avoid to be unprepared for potential attacks of any kind of virus, let's reactivate ourselves, each with its own time and way, but without falling into complacency, let's wake up from this long winter!

Fonte: ADA - Position of the American Dietetic Association: Vegetarian Diets - Volume 109, Issue 7, Pages 1266-1282 (July 2009)

  • frutti di bosco ( ribes, more, lamponi, fragole)
  • carciofi
  • cavolo nero
  • kiwi
  • peperoni
  • pistacchi
  • pomodori secchi
  • arance

e molti altri..

Where do you get proteins?
I have often heard from friends practicing sports who would not know how to manage a plant based diet due to the high energy consumption given by sports activities.
This is another of the many false myths that we drag on from decades of bad information.
The vegetable diet is also optimal for athletes because it provides the correct intake of vitamins and minerals needed to recover those lost during training and proteins essential to muscle recovery.
There are several benefits as a result of a vegetarian diet also for athletes, for example, the improvement of immune defenses, the reduction of oxidative stress and a greater speed of recovery after training. Source: ADA - Position of the American Dietetic Association: Vegetarian Diets - Volume 109, Issue 7, Pages 1266-1282 (July 2009)

"Training, especially if intensive, can lead to some problems. High level athletes often show a reduced efficiency of the immune system and an increased incidence of infections in the upper respiratory tract". (Source SSNV)
In addition, during training, oxidative stress is produced and also for this reason we often use antioxidant supplements, however, several studies have shown that the use of these do not reach the same beneficial effect that would be obtained through those naturally contained in plant foods, indeed, in some of them, they seem to slow down muscle recovery.

Among the various foods, those with the highest antioxidant content are:
  • berries (currants, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries)
  • artichokes
  • black cabbage
  • kiwi
  • pepperoni
  • pistachios
  • dry tomatoes
  • arance

and many others...

But where do you get the protein?

There are no data in the literature confirming benefits in protein intake above 2 g/kg/day. On the contrary, an excess protein creates overwork for the kidneys, which have to dispose of the nitrogen waste due to their digestion.

• Evitare the e caffè durante e dopo i pasti, in quanto la caffeina inibisce l' assorbimento intestinale.
• Fare esercizio fisico costante
• Non fumare

MILK, CALCIUM AND BONES

The latest research comes from the University of Uppsala and has been published in the British Medical Journal, one of the most reliable and accredited sources, which shows that the consumption of milk creates an acidifying environment, at the intestinal level is degraded to lactic acid by increasing inflammation and oxidative stress. These conditions are at the basis of an increased risk of mortality and paradoxically of bone fractures.
Also, according to the Swedish study, in women the consumption of milk itself was associated with a higher probability of suffering a fracture.

It is now known that the use of animal proteins acidifies the body and puts it in conditions of a continuous loss of calcium in the bones, this because the bone releases calcium salts during the metabolization phase of the protein.
Excess protein is more harmful to the bone than limited calcium inputs and, in an omnivorous diet, this excess is constant.
To evaluate bone health, it is not so important to take into account the amount of calcium taken, but rather the calcium / phosphorus ratio, which depends on the amount of protein consumed with the diet.

Another important aspect for bone health, more than density (of which there is already a large market among supplements and pharmacological and diagnostic treatments), is the risk of fracture.
As Prof. Berrino explains, in his book "Il Cibo dell' Uomo", some treatments for osteoporosis can make the bone denser to the MOC, but in reality more fragile.

The WHO in fact proposed a questionnaire which calculates the risk of fracture at 10 years (Fracture Risk Assessment Tool) which is much more reliable than the MOC.

One of the most important causes of osteoporosis is sedentariness. It is always advisable to be physically active, possibly outdoors, so that vitamin D can be synthesized. Even the famous walk of 30 minutes a day, better if with a weight on your shoulders.

In summary, for the health of bones is good:
- Reduce animal proteins, avoid sugars and sugary drinks that acidify the body.
- Reduce the consumption of salt (which facilitates the elimination of calcium with urine)
- Increase the consumption of calcium through vegetables: the presence of oxalates in some vegetables such as, ribs, chard, rhubarb, spinach, turnips, chicory, etc.., could reduce the bioavailability of calcium, however, it is also true that, to obtain a good amount of calcium from these vegetables is sufficient to eliminate the cooking water, eliminating with it also the oxalates.
- Other foods rich in calcium are sesame, gomasio, onion (better cooked), almonds, legumes, aromatic herbs (basil, marjoram, thyme...).
- Avoid tea and coffee during and after meals, as caffeine inhibits intestinal absorption.
- Exercise constantly
- Don't smoke

- Noci
- Semi di canapa.
- Verdure a foglia verde (rucola, spinaci ecc.)
- Zucca.

Omega 3 and the best sources

I often read several articles on the importance of taking Omega 3 in the form of fish or supplements, but let's see what they are and what are the best sources from which getting them.

Omega-3 are essential fatty acids, we take them through the diet in the form of precursors, which are then transformed into long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, because they are not synthesized directly by our body.

Why are they so important?

Further on, some of their functions:
- They keep the cell membranes of our body healthy.
- They maintain a correct blood pressure by regulating the excess of triglycerides in the adult
- They protect against various degenerative and cardiovascular diseases as well as certain types of cancer and reduce the risk of mortality from coronary heart disease.
It's recommended to take them through fish, but the truth is that several studies have confirmed that in this way you have more harm than good, because fish, along with all other animal products, are the main source of saturated fat and cholesterol, which is known to cause cardiovascular disease and inflammation of the body.

Without counting the mercury pollution to which fish are constantly exposed and the environmental impact of both sea and farmed fish.

At this point one could think of obviating the problem by taking supplements, however, there are studies which show that taking fish oil through supplements does not bring any benefit.
The best source of Omega 3 remains therefore those vegetables, of which the best are:
- Linseed (ground)
- Chia seeds (ground)
- Walnuts
- Hemp seeds
- Green leafy vegetables (rocket, spinach, etc.).
This applies both to those who have chosen a 100% vegetable diet and to everyone else.

Proteine Vegetali vs Proteine Animali

Daily consumption also solves the problem of intestinal fermentation, as the bacterial flora needs two/three weeks to get used to it and the microbiota will be strengthened and more effective in food processing.
It is also less acidifying and contains less fat than a meat dish.

The first digestion happens in the mouth, we learned in school. That's right, chewing slowly and for a long time allows the food to be crushed by the teeth and emulsified by saliva that contains digestive enzymes. Most people who have digestive problems admit of being greedy and hasty in eating.
Chewing slowly, perhaps avoiding doing anything else which distracts us, such as watching the news or reading the newspaper, changes the food energy and helps us to digest better, in addition, chewing releases hormones that regulate the appetite, giving us the feeling of satiety.
The pre-digested food from the mouth will avoid annoying gastric refluxes, moreover, by chewing we send a signal to the body to prepare for the assimilation of the properties contained in the food.

On a more subtle level, chewing quickly may be associated with the difficulty in digesting and metabolizing life's experiences and thus learn from them.

If I learn to chew slowly, I will bring a change in my approach to life to a subtle level.

Stress e Difese Immunitarie

Researchers at the University of California's AIDS Institute discovered not only that HIV was more likely to spread in the most stressed patients, but also that the higher the patient's stress levels, the weaker his response to antiretroviral drugs.
The drugs were four times more effective in relatively calm patients than those who were more stressed based on blood pressure, sweating and resting heart rate.
Based on these findings, the researchers concluded that the nervous system has a direct effect on viral replication.
